Our mission to build a diverse community that cares for the land informs that equity and inclusion are core elements of our organization and community. We believe that a thriving, inclusive community is essential to cultivating the sustainability and stewardship of the environment. By embracing individuals from all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, we ensure that our collective efforts to protect and nurture the land are stronger and more impactful.
In line with our mission, we have developed a comprehensive Community Building Plan that articulates our specific goals. This plan outlines our commitment to fostering an environment where everyone feels valued, heard, and empowered to contribute to the collective well-being of our community and the land we care for. It sets specific objectives for increasing diversity, promoting equity in all aspects of our work, and creating an inclusive culture that supports the voices of all members.
At Wildlands Restoration Volunteers (WRV), we recognize that environmental justice is essential to our mission of building diverse communities that care for the land. We believe that everyone—regardless of race, ethnicity, income, gender identity, age, ability, background etc.—has the right to a healthy environment and the opportunity to participate in its restoration and stewardship.
Additionally, we have established a Statement Rejecting Racism to make clear our unwavering stance against discrimination, prejudice, and racism in all forms. This statement serves as a reminder that racism has no place in our community and that we are dedicated to building a future where everyone, regardless of race or background, has an equal opportunity to engage, contribute, and thrive.
Greater strength and resilience for WRV and our mission is gained through cultivating a welcoming and inclusive community. WRV’s Community Code of Conduct promotes an environment that is safe, inclusive, fair, and consistent. It sets an expectation for respectful behavior among all community members and a shared responsibility for each other’s well-being. The Code of Conduct is intended to reflect and further promote WRV’s Mission and Core Values.
Together, these efforts reflect our belief that true environmental stewardship begins with a commitment to building an inclusive, diverse, and just community, united by a shared responsibility to care for the land. See our land acknowledgement statement.
